Every 2 years the Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir organises a memorial concert. The proceeds from the concert go towards a bursary for young musicians living in the Neath Port-Talbot area. The concert is held as a memoriam for Richard Harris.
Richard was a talented young musician. He was born in Tonmawr and was educated at Dyffryn Comprehensive School and Aberystwyth University. Tragically Richard was never to complete his studies and died as a result of a road accident in 1980. He was a founder member of the Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir.
Richard was a musician of enormous potential - a singer, pianist, trumpeter and composer. At Aberystwyth he composed for a variety of ensembles but sadly few pieces have ever been performed in public.
The most notable previous recipient of the award was Katherine Jenkins. Katherine has gone on to international stardom but has never forgotten Pelenna Valley and has performed with them on numerous occasions. The choir is delighted that Katherine has become an honorary patron and that her involvement and support for the choir will continue.
