Alan was born in Ynysybwl in August 1944 when his parents blessed him with his initials A.B.C.D.
He was one of six children all of whom had great singing voices. His elder brother and sister becoming members of the George Mitchell singers. Alan’s singing ambition has been achieved by the invitation to become president of the Pelenna Choir and listening to the great combination of voices and sounds, without adding to the chorus himself.
Alan left his Trerobart primary schooling to move to Nottingham at the age of eleven. His father a miner, decided to prolong his health and take his family to the Nottinghamshire coal fields.
Post grammar school, Alan joined the Royal Air Force as a Halton Apprentice to become an avionics technician, where he served for ten years.
His Welsh roots gave him the love of music, education and also rugby. He went on to play for the R.A.F and in the Midlands against those well known 1973 All Blacks.
Coaching and educating are a passion and he spent four great years at Loughborough University developing the skills under the wise tutelage of Jim Greenwood.
Alan spent several years as a teacher, when he also coached Nottingham, the Midlands, England B and England on the 1988 tour to Australia (as a proud Welshman). When Director of Marketing of Morgan Bruce Solicitors he coached Wales from 1991 to 1995 over 38 test matches and the championship in 1994.
He is one of the founders of Telos Partners a global business consultancy where he has been a partner for the last 20 years.
His friendship with Mike and Margaret Thomas through his wife Ellen, lead to a wonderful relationship with the choir. They sang beautifully at his and Ellen’s wedding thirteen years ago and performed magical facilitation and performances for one of Telos’s biggest global clients.
